Westminster Greenspace
Luur was asked by the client to design a space for the elderly residents within the Westminster community that would be adjacent to the future community center. Our proposal focused on creating a space that was interactive for the elderly–a place to meet, gather, and enjoy nature while still having a beautiful view of downtown Indianapolis.
The existing lot consisted of a steep grade with remnants of old dilapidated steps embedded in multiple places throughout the site making it very difficult to access the upper portion of the site. With the removal of the old concrete steps and steep grade, the proposed grass covered terraces, integrated ramp, concrete paving pattern, and bench shape, Luur’s proposed concept stays true to the preexisting ‘stepping up’ conditions, yet provides a much more accessible and cohesive design that will allow local elderly and children to gather and interact with the Westminster Greenspace.
