Limestone Tonal Bench
Through the use of a new material (limestone) and combination CNC and hand-chiseling process, Limestone Tonal Bench was cut from a solid block of limestone.
The form and shape of Tonal Bench is based on a paper folding technique called pleating. The folding process creates a varied surface of high and low spots called mountains and valleys. When light hits the subtle angles, the tonal pattern is revealed. A 3d cad file was created to mimic the paper folds, which was used to cut portions of the bench on a CNC router with the remaining parts of the bench hand-chiseled by a craftsmen.
